Content Writing Skills in 2021
“Content is the king”, says a lot of people but how to master good content writing is still a matter of concern for a lot of content writers.
Digital Marketing is an area where content plays a vital role in attracting, engaging and transacting with potential customers on the internet. If you want to master the skill of writing good content; here are some tips and habits you need to develop and practice –
Keep it simple
I am a firm believer that people want to talk to humans and not computers, logos, mascots or taglines. The simpler the content you write, the better it will be communicated.
Do not write like you have to impress your English teacher. Fancy words are a fad and it makes communication with your readers difficult.
Good communication is always about easy reading and understanding. If you are able to explain complex things in simple language; it is good communication.
No two people can write in the same manner so explore different content writing examples as samples and develop your own unique style.
Develop Reading Habit
Reading books and journals can help you elevate your vocabulary and it will help you in many ways. The more you will read, the better you will be able to phrase sentences.
Starting book reading can be overwhelming in the beginning but once you start getting the results out of it; I promise there will be no looking back. Learning is always awkward and to level up your skills, this is the only path you will need to follow.
I have started reading books recently and apart from just writing better content it has also helped me in Personal Development such as increasing focus, reducing stress and developing soft skills.
You can explore more content writing formats apart from books such as EBooks, Magazines, Journals that feature good content. Try to skip political content and read content that can elevate your mood as well.
Create Rock solid Titles
To make the viewer ‘read’ and ‘click’ on your content is the real deal. The internet world is highly distracting and with content flowing from all areas; it is indeed a challenge to make your viewer click on your content.
However, with rock-solid headlines & catchy titles you can do the magic. Use relevant keywords and touch the pain-point of your readers in the title.
For example, Internet users generally search for their queries in Google. The quality of traffic coming on Google search is very high quality and the search intent is very clear.
If your titles are appealing and have relevant keywords that match with the search query of the user; it will be easy to prompt the user to click on your content.
This is applicable for all kinds of content be it social media posts, website banners, and Facebook Ad copies.
Include Surprise Elements
Everyone loves surprises! Include a surprise element in every content you create. Surprise elements can be anything that adds value in the life of your readers.
It can be a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in the form of a Free Ebook, consultation, discount offer or anything which you can give to your audience without putting in much effort. I have a Free Ebook on ‘Create a Facebook Business Page in 4 steps‘ which is my MVP for my readers.

Polish your content by editing on a regular basis
‘Perfection lies in Iterations’ and this is said by none other than the Digital Marketing legend of India: Deepak Kanakraju (aka. Digital Deepak).
Keep editing your content on a regular basis to polish your content to make it shine on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
Even Google algorithms suggest updating your content regularly to make it relevant at all times for your readers.
Good content is a result of good assembling. Create a mind map of the content beforehand and mention what all areas you will cover in that content.
Once you have finished writing, review it once and make necessary changes in it. The more revisions you will do, the more you will master your content writing skills and lesser revisions will be required in the future.
Join a conversation
Write as you talk and try to join a conversation rather than striking a brand new topic. Think what your readers would want to read for a specific topic. If I would write on these topics, the readers will certainly read these articles because they want to know more about this. I hope with this example, you get an idea of how to join a conversation with your readers.
